Hot and hellish in Goondiwindi
Some of Australia’s best triathletes descended on the Queensland town of Goondiwindi this weekend, for an epic outback adventure race.
The E & E Waste Hell of the West involves a 2k swim in the mighty Macintyre River, a 80k cycle and a 20k run.
In an incredible show of community spirit, volunteers dotted the entirety of the course from the early hours of Sunday morning.
Clapping, cheers and encouraging words were offered up to competitors every step of the way.
The atmosphere was electric as 2019 HOTW Champion Max Neumann crossed the finish line, smashing his record from last year.
Six times HOTW champ, Sarah Crowley was the first woman to cross the line.
This year’s event also included a ’Super Saturday’, involving three races; the Firestarter Enticer Triathlon, the Gundy Inferno 5k & 10k Charity Fun Runs and the Hell Kids Mini Triathlon.
Athletes of all stages and ages make the journey year after year to compete at the Goondiwindi event, yet the adrenalin of the Hell Of The West has proven to provide a great day out for spectators too.
